The Thank You Foundation Raises Over $400 for Fisher House

Great Support Shown by Lebanon Community

Lebanon Thursday, May 5th, 2007 - As part of National Military Appreciation Month, The Thank You Foundation along with students from Lebanon High School collected items and raised money to benefit the Fisher House in Cincinnati. The citizens of Lebanon donated items to be sent to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as well.

At the end of the day over $400.00 was raised and several hundred dollars worth of items were donated by the citizens of Lebanon and the surrounding areas. Everything from food items, playing cards, magazines, toys, and personal hygiene items were either donated or purchased with the money collected.

Several people also made donations to send foundation Thank You Cards to Veterans and Service Members in Iraq. Those who made a donation wrote personal notes of thanks and encouragement in the cards.

John Guinn, President and Founder of The Thank You Foundation commented, "The Lebanon community showed great support and really stepped up to help our Veterans and members of the Armed Forces." A special "thank you" goes to Wal-Mart for assisting the foundation with the project.

Army Specialist Courey from Middletown was on hand to help support efforts. Spc. Courey is currently helping out at The Army Recruiting station in Lebanon.

Guinn added, "Spc. Courey was a huge part of the success of today's event. It really helped for the community to see someone in uniform."

Freshmen from Mr. McCarty's Modern Era History class helped pass out flyers and take donations. Many people who stopped by the two collection booths were elated to see the students helping out and made a special point to thank them for giving up their Saturday afternoon to volunteer.

Foundation Secretary and Treasurer Rick Smith who ran for State Senator in the 7th District was back in Lebanon but this time the visit was not political and the only campaigning was to lobby support for the Fisher House and our Veterans and Soldiers. Mr. Smith said, "It was great meeting the wonderful citizens of Lebanon again and help promote the cause of The Thank You Foundation."

On Saturday May 26th the Foundation will take all of the items to the Fisher House and hand out Foundation Thank You cards.

The Fisher House is a unique private-public partnership that provides services and needs beyond that normally provided by the Department of Defense and The Veterans Affairs. One such service is "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

The Thank You Foundation, a non-partisan, non-profit organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the men and women of the Armed Forces and their family members. The goal of the foundation is to implement and administer programs and services designed to carry out a mission of appreciation, educate the public about the sacrifices our military personnel make and provide soldiers and veterans with times of enjoyment, relaxation, recreation and help when they have a personal need.
