Sharonville, Ohio - May 19, 2007 - The Thank You Foundation was at the Top Shelf Deli in Sharonville today collecting items for LCPL Douglas Mastruserio of Madeira and fellow Marines of the 2nd Maintenance Battalion Reinforced MP Company at T.Q. Airbase in Iraq. Items collected included toothpaste, toothbrushes, beef jerky, Slim Jims, soap, gum, and candy. Money collected at the booth was used to purchase additional items and Top Shelf Deli contributed items as well. Congresswoman Jean Schmidt from the 2nd Congressional District paid a surprise visit to donate items, and also stopped to talk with volunteers and citizens who were dropping items off. The event came to life when Douglas' step father Mark Miller contacted the foundation to seeking items to be donated. Foundation President John Guinn stated "I wanted to do more than just donate a few items, so we set the wheels in motion to hold a drive" "Thankfully there are businesses like Top Shelf Deli who strive to support the community and of course our Service Members in harm's way". "We have done two of these events and to see the community support our efforts the way that they have has been in a word - awesome. To have Congresswoman Jean Schmidt come out shows her genuine support of our Military" Guinn also added. Mark Miller, Doug's father was on hand to receive items and the foundation kicked in $50.00 to help with shipping the items to Iraq
