Local veterans receive special visit

LEBANON, Ohio -- On June 30, more than 50 members of the Patriot Guard Riders and volunteers from The Thank You Foundation, along with Rep. Jean Schmidt and retired Col. John Lusa of AUSA, paid a very special visit to 14 veterans at the Lebanon Country Manor nursing facility in Lebanon, Ohio.

U.S. Army Spc. James C. Robinson and Spc. Corey Henderson, both veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom, were there to assist John Guinn, Founder and President of The Thank You Foundation. Both Robinson and Henderson were honored along with the other veterans, many of whom served during World War II.

The scene was an emotional one for those who participated in the event as well as those who were on hand to witness first-hand. "When the Patriot Guard Riders pulled into the lot with their motorcycle engines roaring and flags waving, it was hard not to get choked up." said Guinn. "Every one of the veterans seemed grateful for the show of appreciation that was expressed that day.

Schmidt spoke to the veterans and participates about the importance of remembering what previous generations did to secure the freedom of America and spoke of the pride that the veterans and servicemen must feel in knowing what role they have played in ensuring freedom and democracy, for both the U.S. and other countries.

After the ceremony in which every hero received a "Certificate of Appreciation" from The Thank You Foundation, everyone sat down for lunch where they talked, shared stories and gave words of encouragement.

When the afternoon came to a close, everyone exchanged hugs and handshakes, where once again, the tears of joy, pride and appreciation were abundant.

Guinn added, "This experience was the highlight of The Thank You Foundation's existence and something I will never forget personally."
