Cub Scout Pack 70 of Ft. Thomas Kentucky Inspire Community to Support the Troops

CINCINNATI - December 3rd, 2007 - A group of Ft. Thomas Kentucky Cub Scouts inspired a community to get involved and support the troops. Cub Scout Pack 70 chartered by the St. Thomas Church in Ft. Thomas Kentucky collected several boxes of items for care packages to be sent to the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan during the Holidays.

The Scouts then presented the items to Rick Smith, the Secretary and Treasurer of The Thank You Foundation, a 501c3 non profit organization whose mission is to show appreciation for Veterans and Active Duty Military personnel. Pack 70 has about 40 registered Scouts that attend the St. Thomas and Ft. Thomas Independent schools and is led by Oak Martin.

Back in August Rick Smith appeared on the Larry Arnetts "the Bottom Line" show on WAIF. Jim Nedderman who is the Assistant Den Leader of Pack 70 heard Rick on the radio. "I was impressed by Rick's optimism, enthusiasm, and integrity which inspired me to do something to help support our troops." Said Nedderman.

Nedderman added, "I thought a Care Package drive would be a good service project for the Cub Scouts because Scouting encourages family participation. And that's the reason our service project was a success. We had participation not only from Cub Scout families, but also the students, faculty, and families of the schools in our community. The Cub Scouts reached out to the community and they responded in a big way. That's what builds a strong community and a strong nation and keeps them strong; people getting involved, participation."

John Guinn President and Founder of The Thank You Foundation said, "In World War II everyone sacrificed for the war effort. Today it seems as if most people don't even realize there is a war going on, so when a group of children lead an effort such as this it gives me a renewed sense of hope. " Guinn added, "We have had our Thank You Card program in schools in about 20 states across the country and thousands of school aged children have signed cards and written letters to our troops," It seems that our youth have a better understanding of the service and sacrifices being made by our armed forces than do most adults. These young men should be proud of themselves and for the leadership or Mr. Nedderman and Mr. Martin."
